Joanna Fountain is a co-author on both the reviewed books.A good issue. I don't agree with the statement "So perhaps, teens, like us, will climb the reading ladder and move on from graphic novels to serious adult fiction." in the article by Poole. The best graphic novels can be serious adult literature. And even those that are not are often fun and enjoyable. Not everything read by adults is serious and literary. The shelves are filled with romance, mystery, and fantasy that is enjoyable if not serious adult literature. Graphic novels should be just one more genre in that mix. A bit of it excellent, some good, the majority fun for those interested and some poorly done.
