Map Tiler

MapTiler - Map Tile Cutter a Map Overlay Generator for Google Maps and Google Earth looks like a useful tool. It supports TIFF/GeoTIFF, MrSID, ECW, JPEG2000, Erdas HFA, NOAA BSB, JPEG files for conversion.
MapTiler is graphical application for online map publishing. Your map can create overlay of standard maps like Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Microsoft VirtualEarth or OpenStreetMap and can be also visualized in 3D form by Google Earth. Only thing you have to do for publishing the map is to upload the automatically generated directory with tiles into your webserver.

A very nice example of usage of this tool is online map collection of the National Library of Scotland.

MapTiler is one of the results of the Old Maps Online project - we are developing open-source software and web-based tools for map libraries. The OldMapsOnline.org project is backed by Moravian Library Brno, Czech Republic.

If you are interested in MapTiler and would like to know more you can have a look at this presentation: MapTiler: map publishing a la Google Maps - which is targeted to map librarians.
