The 2006-2007 task force was charged with creating a set of best practices for coding MARC 008/lang and 041 language information for videos, especially DVDs, and with using that exercise to examine whether any changes could be made to the MARC21 format (coding or directions) that would improve access to the multiple types of language information found on videos. The work of that task force resulted in a number of changes to the MARC format, which are described in appendix 1. This current document, completed by the 2012 task force, provides guidance for coding video language information using the current MARC documentation.

LCGFT for Moving Images: Best Practices
The OLAC Cataloging Policy Committee (CAPC) has approved the document Library of Congress Genre-Form Thesaurus (LCGFT) for Moving Images: Best Practices. It provides guidelines, with examples, for the usage of LCGFT for moving image materials, and complement existing official guidelines.
The purpose of this document is to provide guidelines, with examples, for the usage of Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT) for moving image materials. These guidelines are intended to complement existing official guidelines. As genre/form practice in general is currently being reviewed by several other committees, these guidelines will need to be revisited in the future; however, these best practices fulfill the need for short-term guidance.
In controversial areas, where existing rules have been questioned as to their usefulness, suggestions are offered for a consistent local practice that libraries might adopt for their own catalogs while still staying compliant with rules for record creation and editing in shared bibliographic databases.

Video Metadata
Lostify is a free tool for Apple users wishing to add metadata to their videos.
Lostify is a metadata tagger for MP4 videos. It runs on Mac OS X, and the tags it produces aim to be compatible with iTunes, the iPod, iPhone, Front Row and Apple TV. This means that after you tag a video using Lostify, it will show up in iTunes, iPod etc. appropriately as a TV Show, Music Video, etc., with all the episode information, season information, etc. intact.

Report and Recommendations for Moving Image Works
OLAC has a draft of the Report and Recommendations for Moving Image Works
OLAC's Cataloging Policy Committee (CAPC) created a task force earlier this year to investigate and make recommendations on issues related to FRBR-based work-level records for moving image materials.
The task force has recently completed an initial draft report with recommendations that attempts to define a moving image work record, draw boundaries for such a record, identify attributes and relationships that are important to include in such records, and assess the relative importance of these attributes and relationships....
The task force is interested in feedback from the wider cataloging community and will take comments on the draft through Friday, October 17.

Fun With Video
CamStudio make it so easy to create screen-capture videos. How can these be used in your institution? How about in the on-line training manual for new cataloging staff? How about where reference can see a demonstration of a search they rarely need, but do need now? Here is my latest, showing features of the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature, including links to maps scanned by the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI)
